These are the faults we see most. Many have a simple fix you can try before calling a technician — and if it does not work, you will at least know what to tell them.
Vertical streaks down every page
Usual cause Usually the drum unit is worn or scratched, or the toner is nearly empty and distributing unevenly.
Try this first Remove the toner cartridge, rock it gently side to side a few times and refit it. If the streaks reduce, the toner is low. If nothing changes, it is probably the drum.
Paper jams constantly
Usual cause In Egypt the number one cause is the paper itself — cheap stock, or paper that has absorbed humidity in storage. A worn pickup roller is a distant second.
Try this first Try a fresh ream from a sealed pack, fan the stack before loading, and do not fill the tray to the brim. If the jams stop, the paper was the problem.
Print is faint or washed out
Usual cause Toner is low, the print density setting is turned down, or toner-save mode is on without anyone realising.
Try this first Check the printer settings: make sure Toner Save is off and density is at medium or above.
"Non-genuine toner" message, or the cartridge is rejected
Usual cause A counterfeit or refilled cartridge whose chip is not recognised. This is more than an annoyance — that cartridge leaks powder inside the machine and damages the drum.
Try this first Refit the genuine cartridge if you still have it. If the machine then works normally, the fault is the cartridge, not the printer.
The device does not appear on the network
Usual cause Most often the IP address changed after a power cut or router restart, and the computer is still looking for the old one.
Try this first Print a network configuration page from the device panel and check its current IP. If it changed, have your network assign it a static IP — that stops the problem recurring.
Toner smudges or ghosting on the page
Usual cause Usually the fuser unit is worn and no longer bonding toner to the paper at sufficient heat.
Try this first If printed toner rubs off with your finger, that is an almost certain fuser sign. This needs a technician — do not attempt to remove it, the fuser runs extremely hot.
The device pulls more than one sheet at a time
Usual cause A worn separation pad or roller, or sheets sticking together from humidity.
Try this first Fan the stack thoroughly and try fresh paper. If it persists with new paper, the part needs replacing — it is a cheap, quick job.
Scans come out with a black line
Usual cause The narrow glass strip beside the main scanner glass is dirty. This is the complaint most often solved in a minute.
Try this first Wipe that narrow strip with a clean, dry cloth. Nine times out of ten the line disappears.
