Both are MegaTank models — the same ink-tank idea that drops the cost per page to pennies. The difference is not print quality; it is how you connect to them.
Both are 3-in-1 (print, copy, scan) on the same ink-tank system. The main difference is wireless connectivity and mobile printing. If you will print from a phone or several devices, the difference is worth paying. If the printer will stay cabled to one computer, the G2420 saves you the money.

The most important thing in this family is not the difference between the two models — it is the difference between them and a cartridge printer. A single ink bottle prints thousands of pages where a cartridge prints a few hundred. If you are comparing either of these against a cheaper cartridge model, work out the ink cost over a year rather than the sticker price.
The Wi-Fi model prints straight from a phone via the Canon PRINT app, and from an iPhone via AirPrint with no app at all. No computer needs to be running and no complex network is required — the printer just joins the same Wi-Fi. This is the thing most buyers of a USB-only model regret two months later.
